The Watershed Project

Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed is fiscally sponsored by The Watershed Project.

The Watershed Project’s mission is to inspire San Francisco Bay Area communities to understand, appreciate, and protect our local watersheds. The Watershed Project works throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, primarily in Contra Costa, Alameda, and San Francisco Counties.

Earth Team has partnered with Pinole Valley High School for several years now. Each year, fourteen students at PVHS are hired as paid Sustainable Youth Interns. This team of youth interns works closely with Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed to maintain Pinole’s Native Plant Garden, complete litter assessments along Pinole Creek, and participate in community events throughout the year.

Contra Costa RCD

The Contra Costa Resource Conservation District (CCRCD) facilitates conservation and stewardship of the natural resources in Contra Costa County. The RCD has worked with FOPCW in the past on habitat restoration projects and trash reduction, which is increasingly an important part of CCRCD’s work.

City of Pinole, California

The City of Pinole is located in the eastern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area. Pinole Creek has been a local source of clean water, whether to accommodate the former ranching lifestyle or as a current natural resource that is iconic and a source of pride for Pinole residents.

East Bay Municipal Utility District

EBMUD is the local water district. Pinole Creek runs through lands that are under EBMUD’s jurisdiction. EBMUD has long been involved in managing and conserving natural resources.

Ellerhorst Elementary School

Ellerhorst Elementary School is part of West Contra Costa School District. The campus backs up to Pinole Creek and teachers, parents, and students have long been involved in learning more about the creek and addressing trash.
